You’ve Probably Been Using Your Oven Wrong

1. Do You Know What The Oven Drawer Is For? Because You’ve Probably Been Using Your Oven Wrong

You have probably been using your oven in the wrong way

Ovens are fairly simple kitchen appliances. Sure, there are variations, but for the most part they work pretty much the same way.

Almost all ovens have that drawer underneath which most people store pots, pans, cookie sheets, barbecue tools, and anything else that fits. Everyone has gone through the struggle of practically closing it because a handle is in the way that makes it jam.

But what if I told you that the drawer is not meant to be stored? Get ready to have your mind blown.

2. For most ovens, that drawer is actually a warming drawer.

It is intended as storage space for food you have already prepared while you make the rest of the meal. For example, keeping the mashed potatoes nice and toasty while the turkey finishes cooking. Or perhaps for a series of hors d’oeuvres for a dinner party you want to make in advance.

You may have noticed, as you reach down to get a cookie sheet or a skillet after the oven is in, that the cookware is quite hot, and this is why!

These drawers usually have humidity controls, which means that your food won’t dry out while it’s sitting there. Plus, it makes it great for warming bread!

3. Now, it should be noted that you can’t really COOK in this warming drawer.

It has been proven that bacteria can grow at low temperatures, so putting some raw chicken in there for slow cooking is not your best idea.

Of course, you can still use the oven drawer for storage. Just make sure that nothing under there is flammable or meltable! The last thing you need is a burning cookbook or a puddle of melted spatula.

Did you know this was the purpose of the oven drawer? Tell us!
