A lady is becoming viral on TikTok after blasting a popular restaurant that ‘doesn’t cater to vegetarians.’
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from using animal products, particularly in diet.
Year after year, the number of vegans grows, with many eager to do their part to support animal welfare and the environment.
With the constant rise in the number of people adopting a plant-based diet, it seems to reason that vegans should have more options for eating and drinking.
On one occasion, Amie-Beth discovered this was not the case.
In a TikTok video, the woman described visiting the famed Sheesh restaurant in Essex, U.K., on her mother’s advice.
Amie-Beth stated that it is well-known for its famous clientele and that “people don’t just go there for the food,” but also for the ‘vibes.
She wanted to get ‘dressed up,’ go to the restaurant, catch up with a buddy, and eat well.
The TikToker claimed she had previously visited the restaurant and was told she couldn’t just order sides from the menus since there were no vegan options on the main menu.
She claims she called the restaurant to see whether their policy had been revised to ensure that the event would not repeat itself.
Amie-Beth explained: “We called them and said, basically, my friend wants to come, she’s a vegan, so there’s nothing on the main menu she can order; would it be okay if she just ordered sides?” Because she’s been previously, and that wasn’t permitted?”
She alleges a woman on the other end of the phone responded: “We do not cater for vegans…” I don’t understand why a vegan would want to come to our restaurant.”
The TikToker concluded the video by saying, “It’s 2023; being a vegan isn’t unusual.
“We were just asking a question, which is fine if it’s your policy, but…” I can’t imagine a well-known restaurant could be that disrespectful.”
After seeing Amie-Beth’s video, numerous viewers turned to the comments to defend the restaurant, pointing out that it is well-known for its meat-based cuisine.
One person stated, “It is a meat restaurant, though.”
Then another responded: “A restaurant does not need to change their policies and way of business to accommodate your lifestyle choices.”
In response to such criticisms, Amie-Beth stated: “It’s a Turkish restaurant; many Turkish restaurants serve falafel. It is not mostly meat. Saying that I’ve gone to steakhouses that serve vegan.”
Others have agreed with TikToker, claiming that vegan alternatives should be included on menus in this day and age.
“That’s so bizarre, they’re losing out on a whole lot of custom lol like what,” said a user.
A second individual said, “Every restaurant should have vegan options, and this is coming from a non-vegan!”
