Cute aggression refers to the almost-overwhelming urge to do violence to an object that we find incredibly adorable. The term was coined in 2013 by a research team from Yale University, led by then-graduate students Rebecca Dyer and Oriana Aragon.

However cute aggression is a form aggression and even when expressed in the most benign way possible, it can hurt.

The difference between aggression and cute aggression is that cute aggression is not out of control in the way someone might think of when someone loses their temper. It can be controlled by the person who is experiencing.

Perhaps cute aggression is a way of saying there is something special in the relationship between the two people that includes no one else. It’s another way of expressing that the bond is too special and unlike any other.

But, now the question is, can cute aggression lead to violence since it involves biting, nibbling and other human actions that might be hurtful? Well, let’s have a look at that.

Probably not. Aragón was asked if she thought it was possible that cute aggression could ever lead to murder or severe ᴠɪᴏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ, but in her view, since the feeling comes from a positive root, it is unlikely that it would ever spill over into a negative physical response.

The response to cute aggression might vary from person to person. But in the average person, the urge to bite someone is healthy and normal and maybe even necessary.
