Desi Jr.’s Start in Life
Desi Arnaz Jr. is the renowned son of the late Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, who starred in “I Love Lucy.”
After “I Love Lucy” ended a few years later, Desi Jr.’s mother went on to feature in the sitcom “Here’s Lucy.”
Lucille was dubbed the “queen of television comedy,” having performed in series such as “The Lucy Show.” She made her reappearance in 1986, playing in the ill-fated film “Life with Lucy.” Three years later, she d.i.e.d of cardiac arrest following open-heart surgery.
Although Lucille’s child pursued performing, he had personal issues that forced him to put his career on hold. One of his problems was addiction.
Struggling with Addiction
Desi Jr. rose to prominence at the age of 14 as a member of the pop rock band “Dino, Desi, and Billy,” which recorded the single “I’m a Fool.” He began acting by co-starring in “Here’s Lucy” with his older sister, Lucie Arnaz, from 1968 to 1974. He made his cinematic acting debut in 1970 with the film “Red Sky at Morning.”
His role earned him a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer, and he also appeared in “Billy Two Hats.” At 29, Desi Jr. described himself as “dangerously close to the terminal stage of (substance) a/b/u/s/e.”
He remained in contact with his father after his parents divorced when he was six years old. Desi Sr. followed family tradition by handing his son a formal letter when he reached 16. The letter, which saved Desi Jr.’s life, symbolized his transformation from boy to man.
Desi Jr. took advantage of his father’s counsel and willingly “detoxed” in a medical treatment program. Lucille and her ex-husband were invited to accompany their son, so they went.
Being a Playboy
Desi Jr., 25, admitted that he was a playboy years ago. He believed he was in love from the age of 13, despite not knowing what it was.
His playboy days were documented publicly. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School but elected not to attend college. At the age of 17, he dated Patty Duke, who was 23 years old.
His sister claimed that Patti loved her brother but was unstable at the time. Two years after dating Patti, he met her in Las Vegas after Cabaret, and they began dating when she was 26.
He also had relationships with Kim Darby and Tina Sinatra, and he sought to date skater Dorothy Hamill. His and Dorothy’s one date backfired when he introduced her to Dino Martin.
Settling Down
Desi Jr., 38, claimed in 1992 that he had finally settled down. He resided in Nevada and remarried a dancing teacher. The couple has a 14-year-old daughter from his wife’s previous marriage.
The actor looked to have calmed down dramatically and now serves as the national spokesperson for the New Life Foundation, a nonprofit spiritual development organization.
Desi Jr.’s Tumultuous Relationship with His Daughter
Julia’s mother has always claimed that her father is a kid of Hollywood royalty. When her grandmother, Lucille, died, she resolved to handle things on her own. She received a subpoena for a DNA test, and at the age of 20, the procedure was completed and returned with a 99.97% result.
Soon after, the father and daughter developed a “beautiful relationship.” The star’s daughter realized he didn’t have to have a relationship with her, but she believed that when she was 18 and older, he could have acknowledged her as his, but chose not to.
By 1994, she was 25, a substance abuser, and working near Manhattan. Sadly, she had nothing positive to say about him.
The father-daughter relationship seemed to improve over time, and Julia confessed in 2021 how much he had helped her during her life.
What Fans Think about Desi Jr.’s Recent Look
Fans got a look at Desi Jr.’s current appearance after putting his career on pause. Lucie celebrated her brother’s birthday in 2022 by posting a cute Instagram snap of her kissing his cheek while he made a weird expression.

The snapshot appeared to illustrate what the brothers looked like in 2023. Both Lucie and her brother had gray hair, although Desi Jr.’s beard and hair were scruffier and longer. He had glasses and a cap.
On August 3, 2024, Lucie Arnaz released the most recent images of her brother. In the first photo, she gripped his arm and placed her head on his shoulder as they posed together. Desi Jr. had much longer hair and a mustache, and he wore a cap.
