When we are in a loving relationship, we would do anything that we possibly could to help the other individual.
When we get married, we say that we will be there for each other in sickness and in health, till death do us part.
The problem is, we can’t always account for everything that happens in life and sometimes there are some tragedies that take place. That is what happened to a young married couple in July 2011.
Matt Davis almost d.i.e.d in a motorcycle accident in 2011. He was left in a coma and on life support after suffering a severe brain injury and broken bones.
Doctors said Matt, who was just 22 at the time, had a 10 per cent chance of emerging from the coma.
They suggested his wife of seven months, Danielle Josey Davis, remove him from life support.
But Danielle believed he’d pull through.
She refused to take her husband off life support – then he came out of his coma
He was in bed and unconscious but Danielle never left his side. Doctors even broke the news to her that there was nothing they could do and she had to make the choice of whether to pull the plug or not.
Danielle said that it wasn’t even a difficult decision because she knew that God would get them through it. Eventually, Matt was moved to his mother-in-law’s home in North Carolina and they were working to make him better if at all possible.
Matt showed little progress but was discharged from the hospital to their home where Danielle and her mother cared for him 24/7.
Amazingly, three months later, Matt awoke. He opened his eyes and looked at his wife, who was there by his side. He didn’t have much strength but he did manage to say that he was trying.
He didn’t remember Danielle, but he was glad she fought for him.
It took time for Matt to improve, but gradually, and with a lot of rehab, he began to make progress.
He still doesn’t remember dating or marrying Danielle, but they are becoming reacquainted and Matt can now drive and do yoga.
Danielle is now fundraising for a personal trainer to help Matt get his walking back to normal.
We don’t often hear about situations turning out like this but it is a beautiful example of what faith and a lot of love can do.
