The simple injection that could cure c.a.n.c.e.r: Australian doctor claims new revolutionary treatment could eliminate blood c.a.n.c.e.r

Dr Ken Micklethwaite says the new treatment uses modified immune cells, called CAR T cells, that can search for cancer cells the immune system can't detect

An Australian doctor and his team have quietly worked on a revolutionary treatment that they believe could one day cure c.a.n.c.e.r.

According to Dr. In the new treatment, Ken Micklethwaite uses modified immune cells called T CAR cells, which can look for c.a.n.c.e.r cells that the immune system can neither recognize nor destroy.

“We take immune cells that can not detect c.a.n.c.e.r, and we insert a gene that allows them to recognize, respond to and kill c.a.n.c.e.r cells.” Micklethwaite against 60 minutes in Australia.

The treatment consists of a single injection of the modified cells – a difference compared to conventional radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments.

The treatment has been used in the United States with a success rate of 70 to 80% after being recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

However, the cost is surprisingly high at around half a million dollars per treatment

Dr. Micklethwaite and his team are working in Australia on a new method of producing CAR T cells, which reduces the price to about $ 10,000 per dose.

A reaction is usually observed about a month after treatment.

One patient who received the treatment achieved a remarkable recovery.

Doctors had little chance of surviving 19-year-old Todd O’Shea, who was suffering from aggressive leukemia and a lung infection.

Chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants have both failed in the fight against c.a.n.c.e.r in adolescents.

“I was scared, I thought I was going to die, I just screamed for days, I did not know what to do,” he said for 60 minutes.

Only a few months after treatment with CAR-T cells, he is in complete remission – with CAR-T cells entering his body to destroy any c.a.n.c.e.r.

So far, the treatment can only help in cases of blood c.a.n.c.e.r, but the team hopes that it can be developed to fight against other types of c.a.n.c.e.r, such as lung c.a.n.c.e.r or breast c.a.n.c.e.r.

“My goal would be … we can tell people,” We gave you this treatment and you are cured, “said Dr. Micklethwaite.

HOW DOES AUTO CELLULAR THERAPY WORK?

The treatment removes some T cells from the patient’s immune system and takes them to a laboratory to increase the immune system’s ability to fight c.a.n.c.e.r.

The role of T cells is to detect and destroy abnormal cells.

The laboratory process develops T cells into receptors that greatly facilitate the identification of c.a.n.c.e.r cells.

The modified cells are fed back to the patient and the results are usually visible within a month.

Some patients have experienced remarkable recovery.

So far, the treatment only works for blood c.a.n.c.e.rs, but it is tested on other c.a.n.c.e.rs.
