The real reason Prince William never wears his wedding ring

Prince William does not wear a wedding band for this very reason.

You may have noticed that Prince William does not wear his wedding band, and there is a very specific reason why.

After the future King’s wife, Kate Middleton, was sighted without her iconic engagement ring, more attention than ever has been brought to their decision to break with what most people consider tradition.

However, Prince William has never worn a wedding ring, a decision he still stands by to this day.

He elected not to wear a wedding band during his wedding ceremony on April 29, 2011.

A spokesman told People magazine at the time: “There is only going to be one ring, in accordance with the couple’s wishes.”

As for why the father-of-three chose not to wear a wedding band, a source earlier told the Mirror that it all stemmed from the Prince’s personal taste.

“He’s not one for jewellery,” the source shared.

“He’s never worn any. He decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference.”

The unnamed source added: “Catherine will wear a ring fashioned from a lump of Welsh gold owned by the Royal Family that has been smelted down. The couple have both had a hand in the design. This is the ring Prince Harry will carry and hand over in the traditional way.”

The Princess of Wales’ ring was previously owned by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

It’s a 12-carat sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds. It was handed to Princess Diana by King Charles as a prince.

Kate elected to wear her engagement ring alongside her wedding band, as is customary.

Royal commentator Eloise Parker told Marie Claire: “Although it’s traditional for royal women to wear both an engagement ring and a wedding ring after they get married, it’s never been traditional for royal men to wear one.”

Prince Philip, who had been married to the Queen for 73 years, didn’t wear a wedding band.

Kate wore what looks to be a new eternity band in a video posted on September 9 to indicate that she has completed chemotherapy.

It was originally seen in a video broadcast on August 11th, when she appeared with her husband to congratulate Team GB at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
