A terrible photograph of two devoted grandparents frantically attempting to flee rising floodwaters in North Carolina has gone viral on social media. This terrible photograph has struck a chord with many because it depicts the real-life implications of major weather occurrences. Megan Drye, her parents, and her seven-year-old son Micah were forced to leave their Asheville home as floodwaters rose, a situation that many people in the United States experienced at the time.
Hurricane Helene devastated numerous communities in the Southeast, including theirs. According to the Daily Mail, Megan, her kid, and her elderly parents took refuge on their home’s roof as floodwaters swelled. Megan’s sister, Jessica Drye Turner, posted images on Facebook showing her loved ones gathered on the roof, wrapped in blankets and dressed in normal clothes, as they watched automobiles and debris drift by.
Unfortunately, the roof they clung to fell soon after the images were taken. The collapse unfortunately claimed the lives of little Micah and Megan’s parents, who were in their 70s and were swept away by the floodwaters. Megan, on the other hand, miraculously survived, though the loss devastated her emotionally.
“I’ve never felt such a sense of loss, despair, and spiritual ache. “I cry out to my Lord,” Micah’s aunt, Jessica, wrote in an emotional Facebook post. Megan was discovered alive, she revealed in a subsequent update. Micah’s body was found half a mile from the collapse site, which is heartbreaking.
Following this awful loss, Megan’s other sister, Heather, launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist the grieving mother. The page’s description states, “For Megan Drye, our miracle, who has experienced every mother’s greatest fear. She has endured the unimaginable and lost everything. Others’ support will lift her up and inspire her to keep taking one breath, one step, and one day at a time.” The fundraising has so far earned more than $66,000 for Megan and her family.
Hurricane Helene’s impact has been terrible, with over 130 reported deaths spanning various states and thousands of people left homeless or abandoned. According to CBS News, President Biden reported that over 600 people remain missing, with communication connections disrupted in numerous affected locations. “God willing, they’re still alive, but there’s no way to contact them,” Biden told reporters on Monday.
The White House reports that more than 3,500 federal reaction personnel have been dispatched to the region to aid with recovery efforts. The Drye family’s story is just one of many that have suffered severe losses as a result of the hurricane’s onslaught.
