Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Anne has been hospitalized.

Princess Anne was hospitalized after an incident.

According to Buckingham Palace, the 73-year-old Princess Royal ‘has sustained minor injuries and a concussion’ as a result of an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate on Sunday evening (23 June) and is currently being monitored at a Bristol hospital.

Anne, an Olympic medal-winning horsewoman, was walking on her Gloucestershire farm on Sunday evening when the accident occurred.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the estate, and after receiving medical attention on the scene, the princess was transported to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for necessary testing, treatment, and monitoring.

An official statement from Buckingham Palace released Monday afternoon (24 June) reads: “The Princess Royal sustained minor injuries and a concussion during an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.

“Her Royal Highness stays in Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precautionary measure for surveillance, and she is expected to recover fully and quickly.

“The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”

Princess Anne made her last public appearance at Royal Ascot on Thursday (20 June), and she is likely to depart the hospital by the end of the week.

Princess Anne has lived in Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, UK, since 1976.

She just attended the Trooping the Colour earlier this month (15 June), when she demonstrated her equestrian abilities while riding her horse, Noble.

Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, spoke to PEOPLE about their family’s intimate bond with horses, saying, “Our horses are in our family, so there are constantly debates about performances and things like that. She has horses in her life and occasionally breeds them. So there is always horse talk going on.

The Royal Family earlier issued a statement on Noble last year, stating that she toured with the RCMP’s Musical Ride in 2022 and was recognized for her superior physical and athletic aptitude, as well as her composed personality.

“Noble was chosen as the ideal horse for His Majesty because of her size and ability after demonstrating her potential during the Musical Ride tour, which included 90 public performances in 50 different locations across Canada.”

“Her calm demeanor allows her to thrive in the sometimes raucous atmosphere of exciting public events.”
