Struggling Man Inherits $60 Million Estate After DNA Test Indicates He’s the Son of the Previous Owner

Most of us — at least those of us with normal lives — have fantasized about winning the lottery or inheriting the fortune of an estranged family member one time or another. It’s rare, however, that such fantasies come true.

One young man in Cornwall, England, really did experience what may be one of the most significant changes of fortune in history back in 2019. The man went from struggling from his job as a care worker to learning he was the sole heir to a $60 million estate.

Jordan Adlard-Rogers has never experienced a lavish lifestyle.

He struggled to work for a paycheck and often wondered how he was going to pay for his next bill.

All his life, Jordan always suspected that British aristocrat Charles Rogers, who lived on the nearby Penrose Estate, was his father. However, without an official DNA test result or Charles’ own admission, Jordan was never able to prove it.

Jordan learned that Charles had d.i.e.d in August 2018.

He requested a DNA test, and it was granted. He learned his suspicions were correct; Charles was indeed his father. Jordan could not believe his good fortune when the keys to his father’s 1,500 acre Penrose estate were handed over to him. The Rogers Family Trust Fund also provides him with a weekly allowance between £300 to £1,000 ($404 to $1,348), according to Cornwall Live. Jordan says it was difficult to get used to the reality that he no longer had to work for a living.

“I don’t need to work anymore so want to set up a charity and help the Porthleven and Helston communities,” Jordan told Cornwall Live in 2019.

“I’ve been at the point of worrying about the next bill and have had a tough start in life but now I’m here I want to help people. I’m not going to forget where I’ve come from,” he added.

The Penrose Estate

The Penrose Estate is a 1,536-acre property in the countryside of Cornwall, England, and is worth $60 million, according to People. From generation to generation, the Rogers family has lived in the estate, which they bought from the Penrose family in 1771.

In August 2018, the most recent lord and owner of the manor, Charles Rogers, was found d.e.a.d in his car. He was 62-years-old. Apparently, he left the estate with no heir.

Charles was a struggling d.r.u.g addict and d.i.e.d of an overdose. After his d.e.a.t.h, a DNA test was done on Charles. It turned out that he did have an heir to the estate: a son, Jordan Adlard-Rogers.

Although Jordan met some resistance from some family members, he was eventually able to get the DNA test results that confirmed his relationship as Charles’ son.

Aside from a short stint in the army and a job at a local farm, Charles rarely worked, the publication reports.

Care also described Charles as “wayward,” adding that though he was always “very pleasant and very well mannered,” he was a “bit of a loner,” too.

Although inheriting the estate was no doubt life-changing for Jordan, he told Cornwall Live that he would much rather have prevented his father’s death.

“People say I’m lucky but I would trade anything to be able to go back and for Charles to know I was his son. Maybe then he might have taken a different path,” Jordan said.

Jordan planned to move into the estate with his wife, Katie, and his then 5-week-old son, Joshua, back in May 2019, according to the Daily Mail.
