‘She hugged me immediately and she wouldn’t let go’: State ᴛʀᴏᴏᴘᴇʀ finds lost 2-year-old on mountain

A New York State ᴛʀᴏᴏᴘᴇʀ found a ᴍɪssɪɴɢ 2-year-old girl and carried her to safety on Saturday.

When the 911 call came in to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office for the ᴍɪssɪɴɢ girl, they called the state ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ to help. Hotchkiss knew it was a fight against the clock. A sheriff’s K9, drone team, and investigators were also called along with the state ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ.

The search

Troopers were called in to assist Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies in the search for the ᴍɪssɪɴɢ child.

Hotchkiss was one of several state troopers who responded to a wooded area near Bristol Mountain.

He and the other members of law enforcement knocked on neighbors’ doors, but as sundown loomed, they had to make a decision fast. Hotchkiss and two other troopers decided to climb the mountain a half-mile from the girl’s home.

With no luck around the girls’ home or surrounding properties, Hotchkiss decided to climb a nearby mountain.

Trooper Brian Hotchkiss found the young child sitting on a rock in the middle of a stream while assisting the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office in the search in the town of South Bristol.

The search took about an hour, troopers say. The girl was cold, but alert.

Hotchkiss said there was only about 30 minutes of sunlight left to search when he found the girl. He’s grateful the story had a positive outcome.

He says this isn’t the first ᴍɪssɪɴɢ child he’s helped rescue.
