Claire Nobile, the baby’s mum was told to “prepare for the worst” after giving birth to little Ryan four months prematurely in a hospital bathroom.

Doctors made one final attempt to resuscitate 1lb7oz newborn and managed to keep him alive with the hospital’s smallest breathing tube.

Ryan was so tiny and his hand only wrapped halfway around his mother’s fingertip.

Proud Claire said: “They never gave up the fight for him.

“He’s my little warrior. I call him Ryan the Lion – he never gave up fighting. It was one hell of a journey but it was the most rewarding.”

Claire gave birth to baby Ryan in the toilets of Glasgow’s Princess Royal Maternity Hospital after her waters broke at home.

She continued “I woke up at 1am and I felt like I was bursting for the loo. I jumped up and went to the toilet and something didn’t feel right, so I put my hand down and, lo and behold, there he was,”
“I just held my hand down there thinking, ‘what if he falls’ and waddled out the door to get the nurses.

“They were there in minutes and after one push he was out and in the plastic bag. There was no sound and he was whisked away.

“The doctors came in and warned me that they were really struggling because he was so tiny.

“They had the tiniest tube they could get and they were going to try one more time but, if nothing happened, to be prepared. Well, that was me, I just broke down.”

Baby Ryan was so fragile that his mom had to wait another week to hold him. The baby boy didn’t open his eyes for another two days.

“It was amazing. He was so small, he fitted in my bra.” Claire added.

She also hoped to raise thousands of pounds for the maternity ward to thank medics for saving her son’s life.
