Philadelphia Man Climbs 19-Story Building To Save Bedridden Mom From Fire

The man, identified only as Jermaine, was climbing to the 15th floor to save his bedridden mother. And he did it all with an injured hip

Last Thursday, a fire broke out in a 19-story building in Philadelphia.

Jermaine Jermaine, 35 received a call one day from his sister telling him that the high-rise building his mother lived in was on fire.

Jermaine Jermaine rushed to the scene to help his mother, who was bedridden due to ill health.

Rushing to the scene, Jermaine said, he first tried to enter through the front door, but it was blocked by police. Then Jermain decided to take matters into his own hands.
“They said the elevators are not working,” he said. He told officers he could just take the stairs. “They were like, ‘we can’t let you in.’

“I took it upon myself because that’s my mother. There’s no limits. That’s my mother.”

He then told the publication that that was when the adrenaline took over. The 35-year-old had fractured his hip earlier that day, but that did not stop him. With his wire cutter handy, he started climbing up the 19-story building.

He said he was worried about his mother’s safety, not his.
“She can’t get out of the bed or walk around, so if there’s a fire, she needs help out,” he said.

Once he made it to his mother, she told him that she was OK and that the fire was contained.

Luckily enough, the fire did not reach the 15th floor. Knowing that his mother was okay, he actually scaled back down the building.

Jermaine climbed down just as easily as he went up. His progress down the building was captured on a video that was shared widely online Thursday.
