Mom of Rare Twins Share Her Adorable Twins With Dᴏᴡɴ sʏɴᴅʀᴏᴍᴇ, Touching To Reader

When 23-year-old Savannah Combs gave birth to her twin daughters, she, like any new mother, knew they were special.

What she didn’t realise was how rare they were.

Savannah Combs gives birth to twins Mckenli and Kennadi Ackerman in Florida, USA, surprised to be part of a rare case. Both were born with Down’s syndrome. Chances are this is “extremely rare, the recorded occurrence is 1 in 5 million”.

Savannah said she suspected even during pregnancy that her daughters might have Down’s syndrome, but chose not to have any confirmation tests for fear of suffering a miscarriage.

The babies were born on 12 May 2021, two months ahead of the expected time and needed to stay in hospital for about six weeks.

They stayed at Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, for about six weeks.

Now, the family is looking to adjust to the new routine with the little ones.

Combs said her husband, Justin Ackerman, was “very emotional” initially about the twins’ diagnosis. But the mother, 23, was “just happy they’re here”.

The family of four is thriving today.

The 8-month-old twins are “reaching milestones like no other,” Combs said. They attend physiotherapy and occupational therapy twice a week and are about to start crawling, their mother said.

But as for the impression some people have that children with Down syndrome are always happy? Don’t count on it, Combs said. While Kennadi is indeed a “ray of sunshine”, Mckenli is the opposite.

“She’s a total diva,” her mother said.
