Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, have had a strained relationship with the royal family since their departure in January 2020. The couple landed in Montecito, California, and now live a totally different life than they did in the UK, raising their two children, Lilibet and Archie.
It didn’t take long after the couple departed the UK before they decided to speak up. Their now-infamous Oprah interview, a Netflix series, and Harry’s book Spare made international headlines, and the Sussexes wasted no time accusing royal family members of a variety of offenses. The couple made several surprising statements about what they had been through, and it’s safe to say it created the groundwork for what remains now in terms of any type of contact between the two sides.
Meghan has only visited the UK a few times since leaving royal life with Harry, but she may return in May. The visit might mark the start of a reconciliation between Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as Harry and Meghan themselves. But it could be a difficult road ahead—a royal expert now thinks Meghan Markle has two demands, including a “groveling apology,” before making apologies.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had hardly landed in the United States when they participated in a high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey. It was merely the beginning of a bitter battle between the Sussexes and the royal family, with Prince William and Kate Middleton leading the way from the United Kingdom.

Harry and Meghan starred in their own Netflix mini-series, and when Harry’s book Spare was out, the struggle began.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were featured in the book, and Harry shared numerous details about the royals. He described how his life as a “spare” within the royal orbit was not particularly pleasant.
Meanwhile, royal family members, including Prince William, chose not to speak out or respond to Harry’s remarks about them. According to Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, Prince William will speak with his brother after he receives a true apology.
“William would be upset that Harry yet again has chosen to make this visit to see his father a PR opportunity,” the reporter told The Sun. “As far as William is concerned, he has absolutely no interest in speaking to Harry until Harry behaves like a gentleman and apologizes for the years of rudeness and slurs he has aimed at William and the Princess of Wales.”
“William must be privately furious thinking over all the years how he supported Harry, and at this one moment in his life when his 75-year-old father and wife of 13 years are both potentially seriously unwell, all Harry can think about is Harry and using it as an opportunity to announce his arrival and expect to see William.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle both went to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. The Duchess did not accompany her husband to King Charles’ coronation last year.
“Megan doesn’t feel guilty about Kate”
Despite this, Harry attended the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey before leaving to travel back to the United States. According to reports, the royals were delighted that he left promptly.
King Charles is most likely the most eager to see his two sons make amends, not only for his own sake, but also for their future. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, together with their husbands, were regarded as the monarchy’s future, but their relationship did not end well.
Is a reconciliation between the two couples even possible? According to royal scholar Tom Quinn, this will never happen.
Quinn told the Mirror that Meghan believed Kate did not provide enough support during her time as a working royal. Meanwhile, he claims that the Duchess believed the two should have bonded because they were both “outsiders,” married into the royal family.
“Megan doesn’t feel guilty about Kate, because she feels that Kate should’ve been the one person in the royal family to back her against every difficulty,” Tom Quinn told the Mirror. “Apart from anything else, Meghan knew Kate was an outsider, so she just couldn’t understand why Kate always towed the royal line rather than supporting her, Meghan, the other outsider.”
