Meghan Markle has opened out about the moment she realized how much attention would be on her.
Meghan Markle has spoken up about the significance of her attire and the one piece in her collection that forever changed the game for her.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met in 2016 and announced their engagement the next year, before marrying in May 2018.
Since then, the media has constantly studied, critiqued, and dissected every step Meghan and Harry have made. However, there was one particularly memorable event that made the duchess realize that nothing would ever be the same again.
The 43-year-old, who has a five-year-old son named Archie and a three-year-old daughter named Lilibet, recently spoke with the New York Times about her business ventures after starting a small portfolio of female-run enterprises.
“I spend a lot of time just Googling, looking for brands,” she says. “When people are online looking for things or reading things, I’m trying to find great new designers, especially in different territories.”
In another portion of the conversation, Meghan explained which item in her wardrobe made her recognize how much attention was being paid to her and how this attention was directly related to an increase in sales for specific clothing items.
Meghan wore a Strathberry bag for a public outing with Harry after their engagement in 2017.
After being photographed with the accessory, the brand’s founder claimed that the bag had fully sold out online in a matter of minutes after the duchess was spotted wearing it.
The midi tote in issue, which reportedly retailed for $675 (£511.35), sold out on the company’s website in only 11 minutes, and traffic across the designer’s sites increased by an astonishing 5,000% that day.
Meghan realized that getting the news ‘changed everything in terms of how I then looked at putting an outfit together’.
She told the outlet: “Times where I know there is a global spotlight, and attention will be given to each detail of what I may or may not be wearing, then I support designers that I have really great friendships with, and smaller, up-and-coming brands that haven’t gotten the attention that they should be getting.”
The distinguished businesswoman went on to say, “That’s one of the most powerful things that I’m able to do, and that’s simply wearing, like, an earring.”
Meghan and Harry recently visited Colombia at the invitation of Francia Márquez, the country’s vice-president and the first Black woman to hold the office.
The pair hoped to use their time in Colombia to raise awareness of their charity work, much of which focuses on making the internet a safer place for children.
