Man visits doctor after eye irritation persists, finds out there is a tick in his cornea

Electrical worker Chris Prater from Kentucky in the United States is used to cutting trees as part of his job. So, when his eye felt a little bit uncomfortable after cutting a tree one day, he thought that it was caused by some sawdust.

Thinking that flushing the sawdust with some water could help get it out of his eye, Prater then rinsed his eye with water.

Unfortunately, his eye remained irritated. As the irritation continued, he decided to see a local optometrist.

Prater begrudgingly saw an optometrist who broke the news — a deer tick had taken up residence in his cornea.

Before Prater could wrap his head around it, the doctor numbed his eye and plucked the pest out with tweezers.

The tick made a “little popping sound” as it was pulled out, he said.

The doctor sent him off with antibiotics and a prescription for steroid eye drops. And Prater left with one less living thing sharing his body.

Now, Prater has a piece of advice for those who find themselves outside often.

“You get a lot of kids hiking, camping, I just urge them to spray,” Prater pointed out. “But you can’t spray your eyes,” he joked.
