Elena and her husband Michael were overjoyed to find that she was expecting. The arrival of their precious bundle of joy was carefully planned. They bought a variety of nursery items, including soft toys, colorful blankets, a large cot, and lots of baby outfits.
Elena was taken to the hospital by her mother on the day of her delivery since Michael did not answer his phone.
It seemed weird not to have Michael there. Elena didn’t want him to miss the birth of their baby girl, so she kept calling him, but each call went straight to voicemail.
Her mother was there to hold her hand, but she missed her husband’s presence.
Unfortunately, Michael did not make it. He missed his first child’s birth. What’s more, he was still not answering his phone.
Elena was anxious about her husband’s health and urged her mother to phone the surrounding hospitals to see whether he was in any. He must have been involved in an accident; it would be the only thing keeping him from being at Elena’s side on the most significant day of their life.
However, her mother assured her that Michael was fine. It was though as she knew what was going on.
Elena was released from the hospital two days after her admission.
She got into her mother’s car with her young daughter, Emily, and hoped to God that Michael was home waiting for them.
When I got home, the apartment was vacant and hauntingly silent. She began yelling Michael’s name, but there was no response.
“He must be upstairs, in the baby’s room, waiting for us,” she reasoned. She struggled to make it to the second level, exhausted from giving birth two days earlier.
When she opened the nursery door, she was met with a rather unpleasant revelation. Some of Emily’s belongings were missing, including a few of toys Elena and Michael chose together and the baby blanket they purchased. Inside the crib was a little message that said, “I love you and our baby, Elena.” But I must depart forever. Ask your mother why she did this. “I’ve taken some of Emily’s belongings to remember you both.”
“Mom, where’s my husband?” Elena continued asking.
Her mother said she would tell her everything once she calmed down. Michael had an a:ffair with his employer, who was extremely wealthy and lavished him with gifts. She even purchased him a brand-new automobile.
Michael informed Elena that he got a promotion and a vehicle because he worked so hard. Was he lying to her, or was her mother not telling her the truth?
Elena’s mother was never fond of Michael, therefore Elena assumed she was the one who told him to go and perhaps threatened him with something. However, her mother denied any involvement in Michael’s choice to abandon Elena and their kid.
She claimed that she found about his a:ffair and advised him to either cease it or leave. Apparently, he selected the latter.
Elena was furious at the time. She said her mother was meant to notify her about her husband’s a::ffair so she could confront him about it. It was not up to her mother to resolve the situation on her own.
Elena tried often to contact Michael, but he never answered her calls until one day, when he chose to talk with her.
He told her that her mother was right. He did have an a::ffair with his boss and wanted to give that relationship a chance. Elena couldn’t believe her ears. She was crushed.
However, within a few weeks of this experience, she recognized that being a single mother was far superior to being with a cheater.
Michael never reached out again. He never expressed a wish to see his daughter, and Elena realized that it was better if her daughter never met the father who had abandoned her.
