Girl uses unconscious dad’s face to unlock iPhone in carbon monoxide rescue

9 year-old girl saves family from carbon monoxide poisoning; unlocks father’s phone with his face to 9-1-1

A 9-year-old Massachusetts girl is being hailed as a hero for saving her family from carbon monoxide poisoning — after she unlocked her unconscious father’s iPhone by using his face, according to reports.

On Oct. 28, Jayline Barbosa Brandão was in bed when she suddenly heard her father yelling, according to CNN. Downstairs, her mother had lost consciousness, and her father was also quickly being overwhelmed by the undetectable gas.

“I heard my dad screaming and saw my mom passed out,” Jayline told CNN affiliate WFXT.

The girl grabbed her dad’s phone to call 911 but it was locked, according to the news outlet.

“So I unlocked it by using my dad’s face,” the quick-thinking fourth-grader said.

Marcelina told CNN reporters that she also made sure to get her 7 year-old sister out of the house.

“She was so smart,” she said when talking about her daughter. “If it wasn’t [for] her to call right away, I don’t know what would have happened.”

All five family members were taken to a hospital and have recovered, according to WXFT.

Jayline’s mom said she believes her daughter saved her life.

“Oh yes, she did. I wouldn’t be here if she wasn’t in the house,” she told the outlet.

Marcelina told CNN that they had borrowed the generator after the storm left them without power for about three days.

Marcelina told reporters that she and her husband are both recovering well from the poison; fortunately, Jayline, her sister, and another family member who was in the house at the time did not suffer any serious symptoms.
