Richard Gere, 74, has portrayed a wide range of parts throughout the course of his career, demonstrating his versatility. In 2014, he played a homeless man in one of his roles. Many people were unaware that it was for a film, let alone that it was starring Gere. Years later, our AmoMama fans are still surprised by vintage media depicting him in character.
Gere was unrecognizable to the general public as he walked the streets of New York City. “For almost 40 minutes, no one made eye contact with me. I was in one of the busiest areas in New York. “If I had been Richard Gere there, I would not have lasted 30 seconds,” Gere previously said.
Various photos show the “Runaway Bride” actor wearing a charcoal beanie, a beige scarf, a long-sleeved blouse, and olive-colored leggings.
Gere also wore a little soiled jacket in several photos and was seen sitting close to actor Ben Vereen, who played another homeless guy in the film.
Additional footage shows the actor strolling around carrying plastic bags. A few residents gazed on as Gere strolled past them during the production of the film.
Unbeknownst to many at the time, Gere was playing the character of George, a dad who wanted to mend his broken connection with his daughter, Maggie, played by actress Jena Malone.
While finding sanctuary at the shelter for homeless men known as “Bellevue Hospital,” George develops a bond with a fellow client who assists him in attempting to mend his relationship with his daughter. The film in which Gere played this role is titled “Time Out of Mind.”
