Weddings are beautiful and you’d want everyone near and dear to be close to you. So, when Todd Bachman’s daughter got married recently, he wanted her stepfather to play a pivotal role in the wedding as well, according to HuffPost. After all, Todd and her stepdad helped raise her. So, when the time came to walk his daughter Brittany down the aisle, Todd Bachman did something quite unusual and unexpected. He stopped the wedding procession, ran to the front row of the audience, and grabbed her stepdad Todd Cendrosky so that he could share the honor of walking their daughter down the aisle.
Ohio-based wedding photographer Delia D Blackburn managed to capture the beautiful moment and the wedding album has racked up more than 1 million likes. “It was one of the most compassionate gestures toward a stepparent I’ve ever seen,” Blackburn said. “The bride was in tears and overcome with emotion.” The photos showed Cendrosky was moved by the gesture and was emotional as well!
In an interview with local news station WKYC-TV, the stepdad said he was completely taken aback by Bachman’s kind gesture. “[He] came and grabbed my hand and said: ‘You worked as hard as I have. You’ll help us walk our daughter down the aisle,'” Cendrosky recalled. “I got weak in the knees and lost it. Nothing better in my life, the most impactful moment in my life.”
In the same interview, Bachman admitted Cendrosky and him never got along initially. But he did what he did at the wedding because it just felt right. “For me to thank him for all the years of helping raise our daughter wouldn’t be enough,” the biological dad said. “There is no better way to thank somebody than to assist me walking her down the aisle.” This is not something that we’d see commonly.
According to People, Brittany had given her biological dad a call weeks before the wedding, pondering over who would walk her down the aisle, because it was giving her a heartsick feeling. “She called me and said, ‘Dad, something’s bothering me,’ ” Bachman told the newspaper, adding that he knew what she was going to tell him. “I told her I already had something planned. She was so torn, and the last thing I wanted was for her to be torn.”
The photographer managed to beautifully capture the emotions and then she shared it on social media. “All families can relate to our situation,” Bachman said. “I always wanted to [walk a daughter] down the aisle, and when I married my beautiful wife, Candy, she gave me three daughters,” Cendrosky told the Chronicle-Telegram. “I don’t have ‘stepdaughters,’ I have daughters. We have become family, and the children’s needs need to come first.”
