Getting Started
Selecting the Pineapple:
The first step is to choose a healthy pineapple. Make sure to select a pineapple with green leaves that are fresh and firm. Avoid pineapples with yellow or brown leaves as they may be unhealthy or too ripe.
Removing the Crown:
The next step is to remove the crown of the pineapple. Hold the pineapple firmly with one hand and twist the crown with the other hand until it detaches from the fruit. Try to keep the crown intact as this is the part that will be grown in water.
Preparing the Crown:
Remove the lower leaves of the crown to expose the stem. Remove about 1-2 inches of the leaves from the bottom. This will help in the growth of the roots.
Growing the Pineapple in Water
Placing the Crown in Water:
Take a glass or a jar and fill it with water. Place the prepared crown in the water so that the bottom part of the stem is submerged. Make sure that the leaves are not touching the water.
Providing Sunlight:
Place the glass or jar in a sunny spot. Pineapples need a lot of sunlight, so make sure to place it in a location where it will receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight each day.
Changing the Water:
Change the water every 2-3 days to keep it fresh and to prevent the growth of bacteria or mold.
Root Growth:
In about 2-3 weeks, you will notice small roots growing from the bottom of the stem. Once the roots are about 3-4 inches long, it is time to transplant the pineapple into the soil.
