10+ People Who Had an Unforgettable Experience at a Restaurant

For some people, going a restaurant or cafe is a memorable occasion. A person attempts to dress up and have a memorable meal or evening. Others, however, consider it ordinary. However, each of these groups can share stories that are amusing, embarrassing, and fascinating.

Story 1

I recalled my most absurd and fateful date in October. We didn’t know each other directly, but we knew each other through common friends. He desperately wanted to meet with me. So one day, he texted me, “Hey, let’s meet.”

I was young and desired romance, particularly in October. He asked me to a restaurant. I entered the restaurant wearing a lovely dress and high heels. It was evening, and nearly all of the tables were full. Waiters rushed by me.

I took a step forward, and a waiter with a tray collapsed on top of me. It was difficult to maintain my balance in stilettos, and we shot across the slick floor straight into the center of the room. I hit the man’s legs with all my force, and the waiter flew further away. I raised my head and saw the shocked expression of the man I had landed on.

“Who are you?!” he inquired, perplexed.

“Lara,” I muttered, embarrassed, as I removed salad leaves from my hair.

He extended his hand to me, helped me up, and put me down at his table. I never met my date. But I did meet my future husband. © Anonymous 03 / VK

Story 2

I was in a restaurant with my child and a friend. My daughter is very outgoing, and she started a brief conversation with the men at the next table: “Misters, where are your misses?” They claim they don’t have them.

My kid says, “Maybe you could look after Aunt Tana then? Because she complained that there is no one to take care of her. No one looked after my hamster, and it started to smell bad.”

Everyone lay down on the table, laughing. The waiters wept. The friend exited the restaurant quickly. © Happiness is simple / VK

Story 3

I worked in a chain of costly restaurants in Canada, and we had a customer who ordered pricey items, paid $200, and tipped $1,000. One day, they were celebrating something. He was sporting an expensive watch, and our waitress complimented it.

So the guest removed it from his hand and presented it to him as a gift. Next morning, he returned to the eatery. The waiter was back on duty. He assumed that the man had returned to retrieve his present. The guest stated, “I gave you my watch yesterday, I feel awkward about it.”

The waiter brought back the watch and stated, “Here it is, safe and sound.” The man responded, “You misunderstood me. It’s not nice to give a secondhand watch.” And he hands our employee a box with a new watch of the same brand. © ChillOut Best Stories / VK

Story 4

When I was three years old, my father started a business and worked around the clock. He once took us to a restaurant as a family, and the waitress made me giggle.

— Baby, who’s Mummy’s husband?

— Daddy.

— And who’s Daddy’s wife?

I blurted out something that made my parents blush: “Work.” From that point forward, my father spent more time at home. © Overheard / Ideer

Story 5

I have never had much luck with waiters. They were either impolite or inattentive students.

But I recently ate lunch near my workplace. It offered home-cooked food, a warm atmosphere, and few people. Everyone was served by a pleasant lady who was both attentive and courteous. Even at posh locations, I had never received such a warm and welcoming response.

When I paid, I decided to convey my heartfelt appreciation and thank her for the great food. I informed her that this was the first time I had seen such a pleasant approach toward a client. To which she responded, “I’m the owner, I try my best to keep people coming back and making them feel at home!” Take note, waiters! © Chamber 6 / VK

Story 6

A buddy requested me to assist her get ready for her first date (hair, makeup, and manicure). We spent half a day waiting, but he did not call at the scheduled time. She resolved to call him herself to find out what had happened. He had an accident and asked to postpone the date.

We decided to go to a restaurant ourselves to preserve the beauty we had created. We met him at a restaurant, together with his wife and two children. When he saw us, he and his family went to the furthest corner. I was tempted to approach his wife and show her his online dating page. But we choose to keep out of it. © Overheard / Ideer

Story 7

We proceeded to a cafe, sat at a table, and placed an order. Then I observed that the waitress serving us looked faintly familiar yet hostile. She hurled the menu and spoke to me angrily. So I asked her: “Do we know each other?”

She said, “Of course we do. You cribbed off from my work in the sixth grade and got an A, and I got a B. Although I think I’m better.” I was stunned, but I decided to give her a gratuity. I hope she completed the math without any difficulty.

Story 8

I once sat in a restaurant courtyard, eating without touching anyone. It was busy; chairs and tables were almost near to each other. And then someone licked my left ear. I froze at first, surprised.

Then I turned around and noticed a little dog standing on the chair behind me. While the owners were gone, it rested its paws on the back of the chair and looked at me with interest. © Overheard /  Ideer

Story 9

I haven’t seen my friend in six months, and we are seated in a cafe. She inquires about what noteworthy events have occurred in my life during this time. My narrative lasted no more than two minutes, my friend yawned a few times, and at the end, the guy at the adjacent table remarked, “Miss, I apologize for interfering, but I feel really sorry for you.” © Overheard / Ideer

Story 10

My girlfriend and I were going to an event last Friday and wanted to have a small lunch beforehand. We went to our favorite Japanese restaurant for dinner. We both had miso soup and one of their classic rolls (a little more than $20 with a coke). The server grumbled at our order as she collected the menus, saying, “Next time, just order online takeout, okay?”

I work in the retail service sector and thought this was an outrageous thing to make to a customer. When she laid down our bill and collected it quickly and without comment, I decided not to tip her at all. I’ve shared the situation with my coworkers, and a couple have said, “that’s rude, but I’d never not tip” and obviously judged me for it. © ScoresMann223 / Reddit

Story 11

A few years ago, I met the perfect woman. We met on a dating website, chatting for a month before deciding to meet in person. We sat down at a cafe and ordered tea and cake.

After approximately 15 minutes, she suggested, “Let’s go to my place to eat dumplings.” So I stayed with her for three days, and we dated for almost a year. She later told me that the dumplings were a surefire way to win over a man she liked. © Overheard / Ideer

Story 12

On vacation, we visited a tavern. We waited for our order for more than two hours. People around us came, ate, and then left. I ordered a well-done steak. In the end, the steak arrived raw, with sauce on a separate platter. We were hungry and exhausted, but we still had a few hours to drive.

It turned out they were seeking for the zucchinis we had ordered all around town. We informed them we were hungry and exhausted. They were looking for the bloody zucchinis and didn’t bring the remainder of the order!

If they had told us they were out of them, we would have ordered something different. The fascinating part is that there were four of us, and we all ordered different dishes. Only one dish of them contained zucchinis. © Diana / ADME
