The relationship between Princess Diana and the then-Prince Charles was complex.

On July 29, 1981, Diana, a gorgeous young woman, married at the age of 20 in a ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

However, Diana was not Prince Charles’ first choice for marriage. Prior to her, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s son proposed to two other ladies.

Who was Charles going to marry before Diana?

Charles III’s love life includes more than just Princess Diana and Camilla Parker-Bowles. They were preceded by two previous aspiring royals.

The first was Anna Wallace, a Scottish heiress and the daughter of landlord Hamish Wallace.

Charles proposed to her in 1980, but she turned him down for a variety of reasons, including other love interests, according to the Daily Express.

At the moment, Charles still had affections for Camilla Parker.

The second woman was Lady Amanda Knatchbull, Charles’ second cousin. Lord Mountbatten, Charles’ great uncle and Amanda’s grandfather, facilitated their meeting.

Despite growing fond of each other, Amanda was not in love with Charles and turned down the proposal.

Amanda also wished to avoid the scandal caused by the IRA’s assassination of Lord Mountbatten in 1979.

Charles eventually met Princess Diana, though he was initially more interested in her sister, Lady Sarah Spencer.

Interestingly, Sarah introduced Diana and Charles without knowing that they would later marry.
