One may argue that veganism would be more popular if vegans were more tolerant and patient, and were less likely to lose their cool in any situation. A vegan family in Australia recently decided enough was enough after they smelled meat being cooked by their neighbor.
The furious family had previously written a polite letter to the neighbor, requesting them to lock their windows when cooking, which is difficult unless someone wants odors all over their house. When the neighbor didn’t respond to the letter, they sent another, which was less polite and far more menacing. A woman called Sarah sent the letter, which she forwarded to her neighbor Kylie. The letter addressed some of Sarah’s complaints about Kylie’s cooking.
The woman, who is from Burns Beach, claimed that the scent was unpleasant to her and that she wanted it removed. The note she sent was placed on a Facebook page and, at first sight, appeared to be pretty courteous. The letter said, “Hello, Neighbour. Could you please shut your side window while cooking? My family is vegan (we exclusively consume plant-based foods), and the scent of the meat you prepare makes us ill and angry.
We appreciate your understanding. Thanks. Sarah, Wayne, and Kids.” While it was not possible to follow–it is simply dangerous to keep the windows closed while cooking–it was undeniably nice.
Vegan Family Upset By Smell Of Cooked Meat
However, the individuals on the Facebook page thought that the vegan family was being pretty arrogant about their vegetarianism. One user said, “They should go live in the bush.” Everyone cooks, and some scents I can’t handle, but this is ridiculous.” However, another user pointed out the hyperbole, saying, “Why all the harsh comments? I eat meat, but she made a nice and respectful request, and closing a window isn’t difficult. Why not be a considerate neighbor and close the window rather than making it a huge deal?”
When the first letter went viral, the vegan family sent another note. And this time, they apparently meant business. The writer mentioned that enough was enough and the social media poster had taken Mickey out of a serious situation. And they would have to pay if things went in a similar manner.
